Ibrahim Arief's appeal sentence in Chromebook case rises to 5 years

The DKI Jakarta High Court has increased the sentence of former Kemendikbudristek technology consultant Ibrahim Arief, also known as Ibam, in the Chromebook procurement corruption case. The prison term was raised from 4 years to 5 years on appeal. The Rp500 juta fine was upheld, but the substitute jail term if it is not paid was increased to 140 days. The appellate panel also added an order to pay Rp5 miliar in replacement money, with a 4-year prison substitute. The case is tied to the 2019-2022 education digitalization program involving the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management. The court said the procurement did not follow planning and procurement principles, causing Rp5,26 triliun in state losses.
