US voters decide Congress as Democrats target House, Senate
Why it matters: A Democratic win in either chamber could stall Donald Trump’s agenda, block nominees and open investigations.
Americans headed to the polls Tuesday in midterm elections that will decide control of Congress and shape the final two years of President Donald Trump’s term. Polls and analysts broadly favored Democrats to take the House, while the Senate remained a tighter fight across a cluster of races in states including Ohio, Iowa, Alaska, Texas and Kansas. All 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats are on the ballot. Democrats need to flip at least three House seats and four Senate seats to win majorities. The result will test voter anger over high living costs, tariffs and the war with Iran, all of which have dragged down Trump’s approval ratings.
