US THAAD missile stockpiles dwindle, new supply slips to April 2027
Nearly 80 percent of pre-Iran conflict stocks were reportedly used up, as peak production reaches only 96 missiles a year.
Pentagon documents reviewed by RIA Novosti say US THAAD interceptor missile stocks have thinned after military operations against Iran, while new deliveries are now scheduled to arrive in April 2027. Defense sources quoted by the outlet said nearly 80 percent of THAAD supplies held before the conflict were used. A package of 39 missiles was originally due to ship in February 2025, but a later Pentagon document pushed back the deadline. The Lot 13 THAAD contract with Lockheed Martin was signed in March 2022. The Pentagon also noted that it takes more than five years to produce one missile, with the full procurement cycle lasting 6.5 years. The last THAAD missiles for the US military were delivered in July 2023, while production lines after Lot 12 were filled with export orders. Starting in fiscal 2027, the THAAD program will shift from the Missile Defense Agency to the US Army.
