US sends 161 people to Haiti on 1st deportation flight since TPS ended

What's new: The flight landed in Cap-Haitien days after legal protections for more than 350,000 Haitians were lifted.

The United States sent 161 people to Haiti on Thursday in the first deportation flight since temporary protected status ended for Haitians covered by the program. The ICE flight departed from Alexandria, Louisiana, and landed at Cap-Haitien Airport, according to a Department of Homeland Security official and Haiti's National Civil Aviation Office. It was not clear whether any former TPS holders were on board. The flight followed a June Supreme Court order that let the Trump administration end TPS protections for more than 350,000 Haitians, part of a broader rollback affecting migrants from several countries.
