US revises claim that Chinese spy platform hacked federal agencies
What's new: The Justice Department now says the Senate, Federal Reserve and NASA were targets, not confirmed victims.
U.S. officials rolled back an earlier claim that several federal agencies were hacked by a Chinese espionage platform, revising the allegation to say the organizations were targeted instead. In an edited statement issued Friday, the Justice Department said the U.S. Senate, the Federal Reserve, NASA and others were "among the targets of QTFY," the platform the government identified during a domain-seizure operation on Wednesday. An earlier version of the statement had described those agencies as victims. A note attached to the revised release said changes were made so the statement matched allegations in the affidavit supporting the seizures. It remains unclear which agencies, if any, investigators believe were actually breached.
