US rejects leaked Iran deal terms as draft talks near accord
What's new: Washington says sanctions relief and frozen funds would come only after Iran meets its obligations.
The United States pushed back on leaked descriptions of an emerging deal with Iran, saying June 12 that the reported terms did not match a written draft under discussion. President Donald Trump said Iran’s account was unrelated to what had been agreed, while Vice President J.D. Vance said Tehran would get no cash or released funds simply for signing. A senior Iranian source told Reuters the draft would waive oil sanctions, unfreeze billions of dollars and require a halt to hostilities, including in Lebanon. But a senior US official said any economic benefit would be performance-based and that Iran’s nuclear material would be destroyed and removed as its program was dismantled. Trump said a day earlier he had called off new strikes because a deal had been reached.
