US pushes IAEA resolution over Iran’s bombed nuclear sites

What’s new: The draft demands access and a full accounting of uranium stocks, but stops short of seeking a UN Security Council referral.

The United States is pressing members of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors to back a resolution ordering Iran to explain what happened at its bombed nuclear sites and account for its enriched uranium. The draft, circulated before this week’s Vienna meeting, calls on Iran to provide precise information on nuclear material and safeguarded facilities and to grant the agency access needed to verify it. The text describes those steps as urgent but does not ask for Iran to be referred to the UN Security Council. The move could complicate talks between Washington and Tehran on extending their ceasefire and opening broader nuclear negotiations. The IAEA previously said Iran had 440.9 kilograms enriched to up to 60% purity when Israel first attacked.
