US parks pulled 51 exhibits from 38 sites under Trump order

What's next: A federal judge ordered the exhibits restored by July 3, but the administration is seeking to pause that ruling on appeal.

The National Park Service removed at least 51 exhibits from 38 sites under President Donald Trump’s order targeting displays that officials viewed as disparaging Americans, according to a court-ordered inventory filed June 17. The removals included an Independence National Historical Park exhibit on George Washington’s ownership of enslaved people and climate-change materials at Fort Sumter, Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and Acadia National Park. US District Judge Angel Kelley has ruled the effort was unlawful and ordered the exhibits reinstalled by July 3. The administration called that deadline unmanageable and asked to put the order on hold while it appeals. Kelley said the inventory may be incomplete, noting an internal database had flagged more than 500 items for review.
