US judge orders return of Egyptian deported to Equatorial Guinea

What's next: The Trump administration says it has started working with his lawyers to secure his release and bring him back to the US.

A federal judge in Arizona ordered the Trump administration to facilitate the release and return of Ahmed Soliman, an Egyptian man deported from the United States to Equatorial Guinea despite a protection order blocking his removal to Egypt. Judge John C. Hinderaker wrote that the Department of Homeland Security must help obtain any travel documents needed for Soliman to come back to the US. Court filings cited by NPR said the administration has begun the process and is working with Soliman's lawyers to locate him. Soliman, who said he feared persecution in Egypt because he is gay, has been held under armed guard and then jailed incommunicado in Equatorial Guinea after alleging abuse by local police.
