US, Iran set 60-day track for deal after Swiss talks

What's new: Tehran agreed to let IAEA inspectors return, while Washington issued a 60-day waiver on Iranian oil sales.

The United States and Iran opened a 60-day push for a longer-term deal after marathon direct talks in Switzerland, with technical negotiations due to continue this week. Vice President JD Vance said the session at the Burgenstock resort laid the groundwork for a final agreement, while mediators Pakistan and Qatar described a road map toward a settlement. A key step was Tehran's agreement to allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency back into the country. In a parallel move, the US Treasury issued a 60-day license waiving sanctions on Iranian oil through Aug. 21. The talks also aim to stabilize Lebanon and keep the Strait of Hormuz open after the 2025 war involving the US, Israel and Iran.
