US hits 80+ Iran targets after 3 ships struck near Hormuz

What's new: Washington also revoked a license for Iranian oil sales, sending crude prices up more than 3% and straining the June ceasefire.

The United States launched a new round of strikes on Iran after three merchant ships were hit in waters off Oman near the Strait of Hormuz, escalating pressure on a fragile ceasefire reached in June. US Central Command said it struck more than 80 targets, including over 60 small boats operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as air defenses, coastal surveillance systems, missiles and drone launch sites. Iranian media reported explosions in Sirik, Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas and on Kharg Island. No civilian deaths were reported, though Iranian state TV said several people were hurt by shrapnel at a commercial pier in Sirik. Washington also withdrew a sanctions waiver that had allowed Iranian oil sales.
