US hit most Brazilian goods with 25% tariffs starting July 22

What's next: A separate US forced-labor probe could add another 12.5% duty on Brazilian imports as soon as next week.

The United States imposed 25% tariffs on most imports from Brazil, with the new duties set to take effect July 22 after a yearlong Section 301 investigation. Washington said the case covered Brazil's treatment of US technology platforms including X, Meta and Google, as well as intellectual property enforcement and barriers in ethanol trade. Some products, including beef, orange juice, aircraft and parts, and energy goods, were exempted. The move follows months of failed talks and comes after the Supreme Court in February struck down Donald Trump's earlier 50% levies on Brazilian goods, leaving only a 10% global tariff in place. The dispute has also spilled into Brazil's October presidential election.
