US hit Iran for sixth straight night as Hormuz shutdown deepened
Why it matters: The closed Strait of Hormuz is disrupting oil flows, and the IEA chief warned global energy supplies could come under strain within weeks.
The United States carried out a sixth consecutive night of strikes on Iran, targeting what US Central Command described as coastal surveillance, air defense, logistics and maritime sites as fighting over the Strait of Hormuz intensified. Iranian state media reported damage to civilian infrastructure, including a bridge west of Bandar Abbas, a train station and an airport. Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed retaliatory strikes on US maritime radar sites in Oman and targets in Kuwait and Bahrain, plus an attack on the al-Tanf base in Syria. Jordan said it intercepted three Iranian missiles, while Kurdish media and AFP reported eight people were killed in Sulaymaniyah and drones were downed over Erbil. The waterway remained shut, raising fears over oil shipments from the region.
