US hit 90 targets in Iran as missiles reached Bahrain and Kuwait
Why it matters: The flare-up threatened traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a route that carried about a fifth of traded oil and gas before the war.
The United States struck 90 targets across Iran early Thursday, and Iran answered with missiles and drones aimed at U.S.-allied countries including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan, further straining a fragile truce. Sirens sounded multiple times in Bahrain, home to the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet, while Kuwait said debris from intercepted fire wounded one person. Iran's Health Ministry said two days of U.S. strikes killed at least 14 people and wounded 78. The U.S. military said the attacks were meant to reduce Iran's ability to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz after recent attacks on tankers there. Oil prices jumped, with Brent settling above $78 a barrel.
