US hit 140 Iranian military targets after Strait of Hormuz attack
What's new: CentCom said three nights of strikes have now hit more than 300 targets as Iran warned of a "severe response."
U.S. forces struck about 140 Iranian military targets on Saturday, the third round of attacks this week after a commercial vessel was hit in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command said the targets included missile and drone sites, naval assets, ammunition storage facilities, communications networks and coastal surveillance locations. It said more than 300 targets have been hit over three nights. Hours earlier, Iran said it had closed the strait after firing a warning shot that hit a ship on what it called an unapproved route. CentCom identified the vessel as the Cyprus-flagged M/V GFS Galaxy, said it suffered major engine-room damage and reported one civilian crew member missing. Iranian state media said strikes hit Qeshm island, Bandar Abbas and Sirik.
