US blocks new Chinese robots, power inverters on security grounds

What's new: The FCC order took effect immediately and covers unreleased models, though existing authorized products can still be sold.

The Trump administration moved to block imports of new Chinese humanoid and quadruped robots, along with connected power inverters, in a bid to protect the US AI supply chain and critical infrastructure. The Federal Communications Commission released the restrictions on July 28 and placed the products on its Covered List, citing risks including data theft, remote access, surveillance and cyberattacks. The order applies to new models not yet authorized for the US market, while previously approved products may still be imported and sold. The Chinese embassy in Washington criticized the move and warned Beijing would respond to actions that harm its interests.
