Unhas expels Forestry student after WhatsApp harassment
The sanction takes effect on Aug. 7, following a June 23 faculty ethics hearing that recommended expulsion.
Universitas Hasanuddin has expelled a Forestry Faculty student identified by the initials WL after he was alleged to have verbally harassed a number of prospective freshmen via WhatsApp. The decision was set out in Rector's Decree No. 17120/UN4.1/KEP/2026 dated Aug. 7, 2026. The case surfaced on June 22, when WL claimed to be chairman of the Unhas PKKMB committee and contacted prospective students, sending messages with harassing content. He was also said to be involved in a WhatsApp channel or group that spread false information, including an adult-content group altered to appear as an official Unhas freshmen group. After clarification with the faculty and his family, the Faculty Student Ethics Council held a hearing on June 23 and recommended the sanction to the rectorate.
