Unair dental graduate accused of thesis plagiarism; victim readies police report
An ethics committee found verbatim matches, but the initial sanction was only a written warning and further review.
A dentist identified as SA has accused FLL, a graduate of the oral surgery PPDS at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Airlangga, of plagiarizing his scientific work and using it as a graduation thesis without crediting the author. SA's legal counsel, Muhammad Taufiq, said a report on alleged academic-integrity violations was submitted to FKG Unair on 12 May 2026, but he считает the internal process has not produced a satisfactory result. According to him, an ethics committee hearing whose findings were conveyed on 13 July 2026 said there were verbatim identical similarities between SA's manuscript and FLL's thesis. FLL also reportedly could not show proof of preparing the work from his own device. Even so, the recommendation issued was only a written warning and further examination by the Unair Ethics Council with an independent team. The complainant is now asking the rectorate to review the case and is preparing a report to Polrestabes Surabaya.
