Ukrainian drones hit St. Petersburg oil terminal before Putin forum
What's new: The strike briefly shut Pulkovo Airport, disrupted mobile internet and also targeted the Kronstadt naval base.
Ukrainian drones struck an oil terminal in St. Petersburg early June 3, sending black smoke over the port hours before the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum opened and before President Vladimir Putin was due to speak there on June 5. Russian officials said infrastructure in several districts was damaged and reported no deaths in the city, though there were injuries. Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the operation also hit the Kronstadt naval base and a weapons-related plant in Tambov region. The attack briefly closed Pulkovo Airport and cut mobile internet service. The strikes followed a major Russian drone and missile barrage on Ukraine a day earlier that killed more than 20 civilians.
