UEFA, AFC and Concacaf urge Gianni Infantino to step down

UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and Concacaf have urged FIFA President Gianni Infantino to step down amid a governance crisis triggered by FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) plans. In an open letter, the three confederations said trust in Infantino had been damaged and called for leadership that serves football, not controls it. They also pushed for an independent review from outside football of the dispute. Pressure grew after US Soccer and Canada Soccer voiced support for the criticism, along with the Caribbean Football Union and UNCAF. That leaves the two 2026 World Cup hosts at odds with the Mexican Football Federation, which still backs Infantino. According to The Guardian, UEFA, AFC, and Concacaf have also begun discussing rival competitions, while the threat of a boycott of FIFA events has also emerged.
