Jakarta air unhealthy, PM2.5 reaches 102 micrograms per m3

Jakarta’s air quality was recorded as unhealthy on Saturday morning, with an index of 184 according to an IQAir update at 05:00 WIB. PM2.5 concentrations reached 102 micrograms per cubic meter, or 20.4 times higher than the World Health Organization (WHO) annual air quality guideline. Residents were advised to wear masks when outdoors, reduce outdoor activity, close windows and switch on air purifiers. Jakarta ranked as Indonesia’s third-worst city for air quality, behind Serpong with a score of 240 and Tangerang Selatan at 231. The DKI Jakarta provincial government said Car Free Day on Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said and in the Sudirman-Thamrin area helped cut vehicle emissions, amid the transport sector’s dominant contribution to pollution in the capital.
