U.S. seizes 3 domains, accuses China hackers of targeting NASA
Washington says the QTFY operation was backed by Beijing and that stolen data would be passed to Chinese intelligence and the military.
The United States seized three internet domains linked to two hacking platforms it said were operated by the QTFY group, while accusing the operation of targeting NASA, the Federal Reserve, the U.S. Senate and critical infrastructure. The U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI on Wednesday said other targets included power companies, hospitals, telecommunications operators, financial institutions and defense contractors. Washington said the operation was supported by the Chinese government, with information gathered allegedly intended for China’s Ministry of State Security and the People’s Liberation Army. U.S. authorities did not say whether any data was actually stolen. The allegations came ahead of Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington on September 24 to meet Donald Trump amid trade disputes and security issues.
