U.S. Quietly Escorts Up to 20 Oil Tankers Through Hormuz

The nighttime operation along a safe route off Oman is reported to move about 10 million barrels of oil a day.

The U.S. military has been quietly helping oil tankers cross the Strait of Hormuz, according to an Axios report cited by Antara on Wednesday. The operation is said to have been under way for several weeks and has allowed up to 20 ships to move in and out of the Persian Gulf through a safe route along Oman’s coast. The arrangement is reported to carry about 10 million barrels of oil per day. Although energy flows through the strait are now only about half the volume seen before the war, the shift in supply is still seen as significant for the global energy market. The report said the plan is overseen by U.S. Army headquarters at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, along with U.S. partners in the Gulf region. A daily ship list is prepared regularly, then the vessels move each night according to the set schedule.
