Typhoon Noul slams Guangdong, 340,000 evacuated
In Hong Kong, at least 350 flights were canceled and nine people were injured, with rain expected to continue until Tuesday.
Typhoon Noul struck China’s southern coast early Sunday (26/7), prompting the evacuation of more than 340,000 people in Guangdong ahead of the storm’s landfall. According to CCTV, the typhoon’s center came ashore around 03:50 local time near Pinghai, about 80 kilometers northeast of Hong Kong, with maximum winds of 162 kilometers per hour. Noul was described as the strongest typhoon to make landfall in China in 2026. Authorities temporarily suspended some work, schools, construction projects and rail services. In Hong Kong, at least 350 flights were canceled and more than 100 reports of fallen trees were received. At least nine people were injured. After landfall, Noul moved inland across Guangdong and was expected to bring heavy rain to Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, as well as Henan and Shandong, through Tuesday (28/7).
