Turkiye urges Russia-Ukraine to halt Black Sea attacks

New: Ankara is pushing for a moratorium after attacks spread from ports and warships to merchant shipping, including Turkish vessels.

Turkiye Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan urged Russia and Ukraine to stop attacks in the Black Sea and establish a mechanism for a moratorium on strikes in the area. He said the conflict has now spread across the entire Black Sea. According to Fidan, attacks that initially targeted ports and warships are now hitting all commercial shipping indiscriminately. He also said Turkish-owned or Turkish-flagged vessels are among those that have been targeted. Ankara's push comes after a series of attacks on civilian ships in the Black Sea, as Turkiye seeks to prevent the war from further disrupting commercial shipping routes.
