Trump weighs Yosemite land swap for developer access road
What's next: Any deal would face environmental review and public notice, and critics argue a similar road push already failed in court.
The Trump administration is considering a land swap that could give a private developer a small piece of Yosemite National Park, or an interest in it, to build a new access road near the park's western boundary in California. The National Park Service has been in talks with Nevada-based Kingsbarn Realty Capital, whose 83-acre Hazel Green Ranch parcel sits near Yosemite. Kingsbarn's lawyer, Lanny Davis, said the road would be less than a mile and would shorten driving routes. In exchange, the company would buy land of equal value elsewhere in California for the park service. The Interior Department said no final decision has been made and that any proposal would have to follow federal law, environmental review and public notification rules.
