Trump weighs larger Iran strike after 13 nights of U.S. attacks

Why it matters: Iran struck U.S. targets in Bahrain and Jordan, while oil swung from above $100 to below $92 on hopes for talks.

President Donald Trump said he is close to deciding whether to order a much larger U.S. attack on Iran after 13 straight nights of American strikes and fresh Iranian retaliation across the Gulf. The U.S. military said the latest attacks were aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten maritime traffic. Iran’s army said it launched drone attacks on U.S. military facilities and bases in Bahrain and Jordan. The conflict has also widened in the Red Sea, where Yemen’s Houthis attacked Saudi oil tankers. Reuters reported that Pakistan is trying to revive U.S.-Iran peace talks, an effort it said was pushed by China. Markets reacted quickly: oil, which had surged above $100 a barrel on Thursday, fell below $92 on Friday.
