Trump threatens total economic isolation of Iran and its backers
New: Trump also targets financial institutions, airports, businesses and ship registries that help Iran's transactions.
President Donald Trump threatened to impose what he called the most devastating economic sanctions on Iran, while broadening the warning to countries or entities that help Tehran. In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump described the move as an unprecedented scale of “economic war and isolation.” He said financial institutions, businesses, airports or government entities that provide assistance to Iran would face major economic consequences. Trump also highlighted oil smuggling, currency exchange channels, cash transfers, ship registrations and shell companies, saying they should be stopped. He did not spell out the form of the new punishment or name the countries that could be targeted.
