Trump threatens Iran after Houthi strike on 2 Saudi tankers

What's next: Trump warned of major US military punishment if the Houthis attack Saudi ships again.

President Donald Trump threatened to hold Iran responsible for any future Houthi attacks after the Yemeni group targeted two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. In a Truth Social post on Thursday, Trump said the United States would seek accountability from Tehran because the Houthis act as an Iranian proxy. He also warned that both Iran and the Houthis would face major military punishment if similar attacks happen again. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said Wednesday that the group struck the Saudi tankers Encelia and Layla for violating its maritime blockade. The latest flare-up follows a July 13 strike on Sanaa airport by Yemen's Saudi-backed government and a Houthi maritime blockade on Saudi shipping imposed July 20.
