Trump steers submarine repair center to Cleveland before midterms

Why it matters: The 46,000-square-foot Pentagon-backed facility could bring defense jobs to a key battleground as Ohio races tighten.

President Donald Trump used a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, to tie a new submarine component repair center to his election-year pitch on jobs. Trump said the Pentagon will put the US Submarine Component Repair Centre in Cleveland. He described the 46,000-square-foot site as a hub to manufacture, repair and maintain parts for nearly all new and existing submarines. The move follows an August memorandum directing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to produce a plan for the facility within 90 days. Trump highlighted the project as Republicans fight to hold Congress and defend competitive statewide races in Ohio, including Sen. Jon Husted’s contest against Sherrod Brown and Vivek Ramaswamy’s governor’s race against Amy Acton.
