Trump set June 19 signing for Iran deal, Hormuz reopening

Why it matters: Trump said Iran would reopen the waterway for mine-clearing and waive transit charges, a key step for oil flows.

President Donald Trump said the United States and Iran will sign a peace agreement in Switzerland on Friday, June 19, and that Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz afterward. In posts on Truth Social, Trump said the waterway would open for mine-clearing operations and that ships would be allowed to pass without fees. Iranian outlet Mehr reported the memorandum of understanding contains 14 points, including ending fighting on all fronts, including Lebanon, and lifting the US blockade on Iran within 30 days. Qatar's Foreign Ministry welcomed the deal as an important step toward a longer-term peace.
