Trump’s economic approval falls to 33%, a new poll finds
Why it matters: The survey tied voter frustration to gas and grocery costs, with 60% disapproving of his handling of the economy.
President Donald Trump’s approval rating on the economy fell to 33% in a new PBS News/NPR/Marist poll, the lowest level recorded by Marist since it began asking the question in 2019. Sixty percent of Americans said they disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy, an issue that had long been one of his political strengths. The poll also found erosion among some groups Trump won in 2024, including white voters without a college degree, 54% of whom disapproved. Lee Miringoff of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion said voters are linking affordability pressures, including higher gas and food prices, to Trump’s presidency. GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan said prices had eased from last month but remained about 79 cents a gallon above year-earlier levels.
