Trump returns to correspondents' dinner 3 months after shooting
What's new: The rescheduled event moved to the Waldorf Astoria, and the press group plans to honor a Secret Service officer and Hilton staff.
President Donald Trump is set to attend the rescheduled White House Correspondents' Association dinner on Friday in Washington, returning nearly three months after gunfire halted the annual event. The dinner is being held at the Waldorf Astoria instead of the Washington Hilton, where authorities say Cole Allen opened fire in April in an attempted assassination of the president. Allen pleaded not guilty in May to charges including attempted assassination of the president. Secret Service officer Victor Gonzales was shot in the incident, but the agency said his protective vest stopped the bullet. The association said it will give Gonzales and Washington Hilton staff a special President's Award for Exceptional Service.
