Trump renames Ontario Lake as America Lake

President Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming Ontario Lake “America Lake,” effective immediately for U.S. federal agencies. The move came as trade relations between Washington and Ottawa worsened after the two countries failed to reach a deal and new 50 percent tariffs were imposed on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney rejected the change and said the lake was “then, now and forever” Ontario Lake. Under the U.S. government plan, the Interior Department has 30 days to update the name in the Geographic Names Information Service. The lake, part of the Great Lakes, lies between Canada and the state of New York, with about 52 percent of its surface area in Canada.
