Trump plans $22.5 billion Dulles overhaul to scrap people movers

What's next: The White House said Congress must approve parts of the project, with construction targeted to begin next spring.

President Donald Trump laid out a $22.5 billion remake of Washington Dulles International Airport that would phase out the airport’s long-criticized mobile lounges and add a new U-shaped passenger train, a central walking tunnel and more moving walkways. The plan also calls for four new concourses and a parking garage closer to the main terminal with space for 32,000 vehicles. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy joined Trump at the rollout. Dulles, in northern Virginia, is operated by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which the White House said would finance the project with airlines serving the airport. The main terminal designed by Eero Saarinen would keep its historic look.
