Trump picks Bill Pulte as acting intelligence chief

What's next: Pulte can serve temporarily without Senate confirmation while keeping his housing finance post.

President Donald Trump chose Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte to serve as acting director of national intelligence, replacing Tulsi Gabbard after her resignation last month. Trump said Pulte will remain head of the FHFA and chair of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while taking on the intelligence role. If Trump later nominates him for the job permanently, the Senate would need to confirm him. Pulte oversees the safety of the mortgage market and the government-backed housing finance giants, but the report noted it was unclear what national security experience he brings to the post.
