Trump opens option of US military operation in Cuba like Venezuela

President Donald Trump opened the possibility of a US military operation against Cuba, comparing the move with US actions against Venezuela earlier this year. In an interview with Axios on Friday (19/6), Trump answered “maybe, maybe so” when asked about the option. He did not set a timetable for action, but said Secretary of State Marco Rubio would be heavily involved. Trump also claimed Cuba badly wants talks with Washington. At the end of January, the US imposed import tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba and declared an emergency, citing a threat to US security. Havana said the move used an energy embargo to pressure the island’s economy, deepening a fuel crisis and disrupting electricity, transport, food, health and education.
