Trump holds firm, U.S.-Iran peace talks remain deadlocked

Trump rejects compromise in talks with Iran as Tehran denies a final deal and the Pentagon warns war is still an option.

Negotiations on a peace agreement between the United States and Iran remain deadlocked after President Donald Trump said he will sign only a deal that meets all of Washington's terms. The White House said an agreement is still awaiting Trump's decision after weeks of talks. Trump again demanded that Iran have no nuclear weapons and said the Strait of Hormuz must be opened. Tehran, however, denied that a final agreement has been reached. Esmail Baqaei, spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, said there are no negotiations on the nuclear program and called Trump's claims about several points in the deal unfounded. In the standoff, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore said Washington is capable of going back to war if necessary.
