Trump claims U.S.-Iran peace draft ready for signing, Tehran denies it

New: Trump cancels a planned bombing of Iran, while Iran's state media says Washington is backing away to old demands.

President of the United States Donald Trump claimed a draft agreement with Iran is complete and only needs to be signed. He also canceled a planned airstrike on Iran that had been set for later that night. According to Trump, the final points of the accord have been approved by the parties, and the move would be followed by reopening the Strait of Hormuz for global energy supplies. The claim was quickly denied from Tehran. The state media outlet Fars reported that Iranian authorities have not approved any text and have not given a final response to the memorandum of understanding with Washington. Fars said Trump's move appeared to reflect a U.S. retreat after failing to insert additional demands into the draft submitted by Iran. Even so, the report said there was still room to review the agreement text again.
