Trump insults Norway, rejects Norwegian immigrants over Nobel snub
What's new: Norway's foreign minister replied that the Nobel Committee is independent, and no US policy change has followed Trump's remarks.
President Donald Trump lashed out at Norway at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, calling it a vulgar insult and saying he did not want immigrants from the country because he was not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump made the remarks on Oct. 25 as he campaigned ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections. He tied the comments to his long-running frustration with the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which is based in Oslo. Norway's foreign minister, Espen Barth Eide, responded that Trump knows the committee is independent and said Oslo had reminded him of that. There was no sign the administration had adopted any new policy affecting Norwegian immigrants.
