Trump honors teen lifeguard, 10-year-old from viral California rescue
What's new: Ryder Williams, 16, told reporters he relied on training as another lifeguard helped bring both boys ashore.
President Donald Trump hosted California teen lifeguard Ryder Williams at the White House on Monday after video of Williams rescuing a 10-year-old boy from heavy surf went viral. Williams, 16, met Trump in the Oval Office alongside Nathaniel Rai, the boy he pulled from the water at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz on July 25. The footage showed Williams holding onto Rai as waves crashed over them before both reappeared and a second lifeguard helped get them to shore. Williams, a California State Parks lifeguard who hopes to become a firefighter, said rescuers fall back on their training in dangerous moments.
