Trump halts livestream of Fort Hood gunman Hasan’s execution

What's next: Nidal Hasan is still set to die by firing squad on Dec. 3, which would be the first US military execution in more than 60 years.

President Donald Trump canceled plans to livestream the execution of former Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan, backing away after criticism in the United States and abroad. Hasan, who killed 13 unarmed service members and wounded 32 others at Fort Hood in Texas in 2009, is still scheduled to be executed by firing squad on Dec. 3, 2026. The Pentagon had disclosed the streaming plan last week, and the United Nations called it “abhorrent.” Trump wrote that the execution would proceed as scheduled but would not be shown online. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had defended public streaming as a deterrent. Hasan’s lawyer, John Galligan, said the plan violated Army regulations.
