Trump halts livestream of Dec. 3 Fort Hood gunman execution
What's next: Nidal Hasan is still set to die by firing squad, and victims' immediate families may attend in person.
President Donald Trump said the military will not livestream the Dec. 3 execution of Nidal Hasan, reversing a Pentagon plan that had drawn bipartisan criticism. Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood attack, is still scheduled to be executed by firing squad. Trump said immediate family members of the victims may watch in person if they choose. Separately, 72 retired generals, admirals and other senior officers urged the government to scrap the public broadcast, arguing it would degrade the military and hand propaganda value to extremists. Hasan was convicted of killing 13 people at the Texas base in what remains the deadliest non-combat attack on a US military installation.
