Trump ends US$4 billion in U.S. military aid to Israel

Israeli defense officials learned of the plan from the media and are now assessing the impact through the end of 2026.

U.S. President Donald Trump said annual U.S. military aid to Israel, worth about US$4 billion, will be halted at the end of 2026. He made the remarks during the U.S. midterm election period, saying he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to the move several months ago and that Netanyahu “did not object.” Israeli media KAN, Yedioth Ahronoth and Ynet reported that officials in the military, the Defense Ministry and the Finance Ministry were caught off guard because they had not received any official notification. They are now calculating the consequences of ending the aid, including for future military purchases. Under a 2019-2028 memorandum signed in 2016, Washington allocates US$3.3 billion in security assistance and US$500 million for missile defense cooperation each year.
