Trump blocks livestream of Dec. 3 execution of Fort Hood killer

What's new: Hasan still faces a firing squad in Texas, but only victims' immediate families may watch in person.

President Donald Trump stopped the Pentagon from livestreaming the Dec. 3 execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army major convicted of killing 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting. Hasan is still set to die by firing squad at Fort Hood in Texas, and immediate family members of the victims may attend in person under standard execution rules. The reversal came after backlash to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's plan to broadcast the execution online. A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll found 80% of Americans opposed a livestream. Hasan, 56, was convicted at a 2013 court-martial after the attack that also wounded 32 people.
