Trump backs Jordan over LeBron after 76ers deal sparks debate
What's new: Trump tied his pick to personal loyalty as James prepares to join Philadelphia on a two-year, $8 million contract.
President Donald Trump sided with Michael Jordan over LeBron James when asked Friday about basketball's long-running greatest-of-all-time debate, after news broke that James plans to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump pointed to his friendship with Jordan and took a swipe at James, saying he prefers people who like him. The exchange came the same day ESPN reported that James will join Philadelphia on a two-year, $8 million deal. James, entering his 24th NBA season, leaves the Los Angeles Lakers after winning four championships across stints with the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Lakers. Jordan won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls and remains the league's career leader in points per game.
