Trump backs Flavio Bolsonaro’s move to US after Brazil loss
What’s new: Trump also called Brazil’s election “very strange” as Flavio Bolsonaro resists a Supreme Court order to surrender his passports.
President Donald Trump said he supported Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro coming to the United States after Flavio Bolsonaro lost Brazil’s Oct. 25 presidential election to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Trump, speaking at Joint Base Andrews on Oct. 28, said he would approve of the move and described the Bolsonaro family as “fine people.” Flavio Bolsonaro left Brazil after refusing to comply with a Brazil Supreme Court order to hand over his passports. Trump also criticized the Brazilian vote as “very strange” and said the country’s market reaction reflected badly on the outcome. He referred separately to Flavio Bolsonaro’s father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, as having been treated unfairly.
