Trump backs both South Carolina GOP runoff candidates
What's new: The dual endorsement came three days after his preferred candidate lost a Georgia Republican runoff.
President Donald Trump threw his support behind both Pamela Evette and Alan Wilson ahead of South Carolina's Republican gubernatorial runoff, an unusual move in a race seen as a test of his sway in GOP primaries. Trump had already endorsed Evette, the lieutenant governor backed by Gov. Henry McMaster, before adding Wilson, the state attorney general, on Friday. Evette led the initial primary and Wilson finished second, forcing a June 23 runoff because no candidate won a majority. Wilson also picked up endorsements from Reps. Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman after they were eliminated, and campaigned with Sen. Ted Cruz on the eve of the vote.
