Trump attends Dover transfer for 4 troops killed in Iran war

Why it matters: The deaths push confirmed U.S. military fatalities in the war to 18 as lawmakers press for funding and a clearer endgame.

President Donald Trump traveled to Dover Air Force Base on Wednesday for the dignified transfer of four U.S. service members killed in attacks linked to the war with Iran. Three soldiers — 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19 — were killed when an Iranian missile struck their barracks at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan on Friday. A fourth, Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, died Sunday in Erbil, Iraq, during the controlled detonation of an attack drone. The Pentagon has put the U.S. toll since late February at 18 dead and roughly 500 wounded, with fighting intensifying after a mid-June ceasefire collapsed.
