Trump approval falls to record-low 31% as Democrats open 12-point lead
Why it matters: The widest Democratic edge of the cycle raises the risk Republicans could lose the House, the Senate, or both on Nov. 3.
President Donald Trump’s job approval fell to 31%, the lowest of either of his two terms, in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections. The four-day survey found Democrats leading Republicans by 12 points, 47% to 35%, on the generic congressional ballot, up from a 7-point edge two weeks earlier. The shift was driven in large part by women voters, half of whom backed Democrats versus 32% for Republicans. The poll also found 68% of Americans disapproved of Trump’s handling of the economy, including 37% of Republicans. Democrats were viewed as better stewards of the economy by a 40% to 33% margin. The online poll surveyed 1,679 adults, including 1,279 registered voters.
